Free Gardening Classes
What you’ll learn
-
I’ll share my basic, low-cost method for making garden beds (hint: it’s just cardboard, dirt, and wood chips).
Together we’ll prepare the beds for spring planting—amending the soil with leaves, compost, and some fresh Tagro topsoil
-
We’ll learn how to decipher a seed packet, talk about zones and seasons, and plan a planting schedule.
We’ll also plant some of the earliest seeds in the ground together!
-
I’ll share advice on watering, pest and weed prevention, thinning, pruning, and how to know when it’s time to pick your produce.
When and Where?

Classes are now full, but please contact me directly via email if you need seeds or want a quick tutorial

What to Bring? What to Wear?
Bring a water bottle, gloves, and a friend! Wear clothes that you can move in, get dirty, and will keep you warm and dry.
What if I can’t make those dates?
If you can’t make the late winter/early spring classes, please still reach out by email to be added to a list for future offerings and events.
You said something about free seeds?
We will be providing free seeds for spring and summer planting. Availability will depend on turn-out, but we’ll make sure to have some for everyone. Get to know your neighbors and share as you like!
Meet your Instructor
Hello! My name is Candice and it’s my pleasure to talk to people about gardening. I don’t have any special titles or certifications, but I do grow lots of delicious food and beautiful flowers every year— I want to share that ability with those who want to learn.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve gardened at multiple rental houses and community plots and now have an established vegetable patch in my yard.
I start most of my vegetables directly in the soil outdoors, usually from early March to mid-June. Each year is different and I learn from the experience, but I’m no expert. I believe every garden and gardener is unique and there are many, many ways to successfully grow things.
This project is my way of offering what I have to my community in an attempt to address food insecurity and promote the life-giving magic of the garden.
Please reach out by email if you want to connect.
